Student visit to the Revoz factory in Novo Mesto, Slovenia

Student visit to the Revoz factory in Novo Mesto, Slovenia

Students of the Robotics (Study of Mechatronics and Robotics) and Industrial and Mobile Robots courses, accompanied by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sc. Marko Švaca and assistant Branimir Ćaran, visited the Revoz dd factory in Novo Mesto on January 21, 2025. Revoz, as the only car manufacturer in Slovenia and one of the largest exporters, produces cars for the Renault Group, including the Clio and Twingo electric models.

The factory covers almost 26 hectares of covered space and is known for its high level of automation. During the tour, the students had the opportunity to see key stages of the production process, from raw material processing to final quality control. The students were guided through the assembly department, body processing (sheet metal forming) and welding.

In the bodywork department, students followed the production of parts such as doors, sills and other parts of the vehicle chassis. Large presses shape the sheet, and robots handle the parts between stations. In total, Revoz uses over 700 robotic arms and 150 mobile robots in production, i.e. AGVs (Automated guided vehicle). Robotic arms are used for process operations such as welding, part handling, deburring and quality checks. Collaborative robots that can work in a shared workspace with humans are also used for quality control.

Due to its complexity, there is more human labor in the assembly department compared to the fully automated departments of the Revoz factory. Vehicle parts travel on a conveyor belt, while workers have an average of 80 seconds to complete their tasks, depending on the complexity. The tools used in assembly are designed to speed up the process, reduce physical effort and increase ergonomics.

Students also saw a large number of mobile robots, or automated guided vehicles (AGVs), in action. These robots use magnetic lines and locators built into the floor to transport materials between different locations in a factory, increasing efficiency and reducing the need for manual retrieval of parts within the factory.

The visit provided students with an insight into modern technologies used in the automotive industry. The complexity and efficiency of Revoz's production systems confirmed the importance of automation and robotization in modern industry. Students saw first-hand the practical application of theoretical knowledge in the field of robotics, contributing to their further education and professional development.
