Student visit to Gideon company

As part of the fieldwork of the Autonomous Systems course, students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture (FSB) visited the Gideon company, one of the leaders in the development and application of autonomous mobile robotic systems in logistics.

The visit provided students with an opportunity to get up close and personal with the application of advanced technologies in real industrial environments, including the Trey system — a robot for autonomous loading and unloading trailers, one of the company's key solutions for automating logistics processes.

Ivana Tödtling and Edin Kočo introduced the company, its products, development teams, and the markets it operates in to the students. The students had the opportunity to learn more about the technologies Gideon uses, including computer vision and LiDAR sensors, as well as its own developed software solutions that enable autonomous control of robotic systems.

In addition to the technical part, students also heard more about the professional experiences of team members and development paths in the field of robotics and autonomous systems.

The lecture was followed by a tour of the production and test stations, during which students observed robot testing live and had the opportunity to learn about the functional and safety characteristics of Gideon robotic forklifts.

We would like to thank the Gideon company for its hospitality and support to students through opportunities to get to know the industry, student engagements, and development of ideas for final and graduate theses.
