Innovation and significance

This PoC project presents a new integrated solution for medical diagnostics and patient scanning, combining 3D ultrasound volume reconstruction and image analysis with autonomous path planning and robot control. The system consists of a “smart” tool that improves diagnostic capabilities by performing 3D ultrasound reconstruction, tissue segmentation and multimodal data registration. The sensor system is attached to a robotic arm as a single integrated product, and consists of a medical ultrasound, a 3D camera and an embedded computer. During a medical examination, the doctor selects an area on the body (based on the image generated by the 3D camera) over which the robot passes and takes
ultrasound images. The system then reconstructs the acquired images into a 3D volume based on 2D ultrasound and the known robot position and further emphasizes the visualization of the tissue of interest using machine vision algorithms.
