Visionary discussion on Artificial intelligence: Academicians Jerbić and Lončarić for Večernji List
Recently, academician Bojan Jerbić from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, and academician Sven Lončarić from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, gave an interview for Večernji list, focusing on the field of artificial intelligence. Throughout the conversation, they covered various topics, including definitions of legal and regulatory frameworks, and the increase in quotas for students in STEM faculties to strengthen educational capacities and research activities. Academic Jerbić emphasized the application of artificial intelligence in medicine, highlighting its ability to optimize the time of healthcare professionals and improve precision and efficiency in clinical practice. They discussed monitoring trends in the field of artificial intelligence and robotics at domestic faculties, the economy's adaptability to these trends, and the impact of integrating artificial intelligence on specific jobs. They then discussed the topic of generative models for creating diverse content (images, videos, text), which have been capturing public attention for some time. Ultimately, the conclusion of the conversation was that it is important to direct efforts towards education, research, and ethical use of artificial intelligence to achieve sustainable progress.
