Intelligent data models for battery cell manufacturing and recycling
The automotive industry is undergoing a significant transformation towards electromobility, with the high-voltage battery becoming a key component of electric vehicles. There are battery cells in a high-voltage battery. Newly developed cylinder members are used for the first time in BMW's "Neue Klasse" models. With this, the BMW Group achieves a technological breakthrough with clear improvements in energy density, charging speed and range. The production of battery articles is one of the biggest costs in battery production. Therefore, one of the key goals of the automotive industry is to achieve the best possible performance of battery articles with the lowest possible production costs.
The goal of the INSIGHT project is to develop models based on artificial intelligence, which, through their application, will increase quality, reduce costs and speed up the production process. Data collection takes place in three competence centers of the BMW Group: Battery Cell Competence Center (BCCC) which is focused on research and development of new cell technologies; Cell Manufacturing Competence Center (CMCC), where serial production is being tested on a pilot line, and Battery Cell Recycling Competence Center (CRCC), which is focused on the recycling process of battery articles and is currently under construction. The main tasks of this cooperation project are the collection and preparation of data, the development of prediction models and their automation and implementation in production.
