Fieldwork – Kraš

On January 15, 2026, second-year students of the Mechatronics and Robotics Study visited the production facility of the Kraš factory, the largest confectionery factory in Southeast Europe.

The Kraš factory in Zagreb consists of five departments (factories), each of which is responsible for the production of various types of confectionery products. During the tour of the production facility, the students had the opportunity to see every step that leads to the final product. One of the products in production was Dorina Ledena chocolate, the production process of which consists of making a shell (casting chocolate into a mold), dosing cream, making a chocolate base, and all this with heating, vibrating and cooling. The entire process is fully automated using variable speed belts, double-walled pipelines for transporting chocolate, heaters and coolers, actuators for applying melted chocolate and cream into molds, and vision systems and scales for controlling mass tolerances and chocolate quality. At the end of the process, automated packaging takes place. Kraš engineers also showed the students future production lines, such as SCARA robots combined with vision systems in production and packaging.

This visit was a very interesting insight into the technology and production solutions of the company behind the world-famous sweet products. The students were particularly interested in the solutions implemented in the packaging of the products, and the high speed with which each product is produced. Kraš also pointed out that their product Životinjsko carstvo is one of the thinnest chocolates in the world in terms of surface area, which further indicates the precision and technological level of the Kraš company.

Many thanks to Kraš and engineer Alen Halilović for their hospitality and time spent with the students.
